Our Story

The M.I.N.D. Movement is a community initiative powered by Entertainment Health Services, LLC. It aims to promote and improve mental wellness within the Entertainment Industry. EHS was founded by Elizabeth Porter with the goal of helping the unique needs of those in entertainment through mental health counseling and life coaching. After spending years in the music industry and developing Entertainment Health Services, she recognized the bigger picture surrounding mental health. EHS was helping those in the industry on an individual level with therapy and coaching, but it just didn’t seem like enough. It became clear there needed to be some fundamental changes regarding how we see and respond to mental health, not just mental illness. As she often says in therapy, we not only strive for symptom relief, but a paradigm shift. Elizabeth was introduced to Dakota Davis, who shared similar views of mental health in entertainment, and the concept around the M.I.N.D. Movement began to come together. In 2018, they began to meet regularly and piece together what they would soon hashtag as the #mindmvt.

Restructuring EHS as a non-profit to parent the M.I.N.D. Movement was heavily considered. However, due to associated complexities we decided to give our energies and resources to starting the conversation on mental health, raising awareness, and simply putting proceeds of merchandise sold back into serving those in the industry. We have chosen to put proceeds on merchandise towards financial assistance with therapy, providing educational workshops on mental health in the industry and research. If you are looking to contribute directly to local Non-profits that support mental health in the entertainment industry, a couple of our favorite rockstar organizations are MusiCares and Porter’s Call (check out what they are up to)!

Through innovative workshops, a series of helpful podcasts (set to launch May 17th), extensive research within the entertainment industry, and merchandise with meaning, the EHS team aims to bring greater awareness to the importance of mental health by way of the M.I.N.D. Movement.

Dakota Davis

Dakota Davis moved to Nashville to pursue a career in the music business. After completing his degree at Middle Tennessee State University, Dakota recognized the importance of mental health and how it impacts every facet of life.

After being introduced to Entertainment Health Services, Dakota and founder Elizabeth Porter, wanted to lead a movement of change surrounding mental wellness within the entertainment industry. From this, the M.I.N.D. Movement was born.

With his own personal testaments in mental health, Dakota has found the value of interpersonal relationships and honest communication. His goal is to challenge stereotypes and to start a conversation about mental wellness perspectives.
